Fire alarm

Fire alarm triggered at The Christie

Fire alarms were triggered today at lunchtime by what we believe to be a leak in a steam pipe causing some flooding in the basement of the hospital, close to our outpatients’ department.

As a precaution, we evacuated the outpatients’ department for approximately 20 minutes whilst the basement area was thoroughly checked. There was no fire, and as soon as it was clear the incident presented no danger, patients, staff and visitors were free to return to the hospital. Staff responded very professionally and escorted patients to other parts of the hospital via safe routes until the incident was resolved.
