The Christie hosts a total of 95,000 outpatient appointments per annum at the six outpatient locations across the site, and for many people it is their first introduction to the hospital.
The main Outpatient Department on Wilmslow Road, host around 75% of the trust’s outpatient appointments, has long been identified as in need of considerable redevelopment to provide patients with a department that provides a calm, relaxed environment; the set-up of the existing outpatient department is not conducive to providing current clinical practice and the patient experience that we wish for our patients.
The first phase of the redevelopment is to undertake a re-location of the existing service to the space below the new Proton Therapy Centre which will provide a more improved patient centric environment than the current outpatients at Wilmslow road. In addition, the first phase includes the relocation of some existing services based elsewhere in the Trust to ensure a smooth patient pathway. (Venepuncture, Radiology 1, Transport).
Work on the department started in January 2018 and will be complete by September 2018, with the first patients using the new facility in October 2018.
