Mr Selvasekar has been a consultant for eight years. Before coming to The Christie he had been consultant general and colorectal surgeon at Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust since 2007. He set up minimal-access colorectal surgery jointly with a colleague at Leighton Hospital in Crewe before setting up a similar service at The Christie. He and his colleagues have also set up an enhanced recovery programme. At The Christie the team offers all aspects of minimal-access colorectal surgery, including robotic surgery. The Christie is the only centre in the UK offering laparoscopic cytoreductive surgery and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy for suitable patients. The Christie holds the minimal-access colorectal fellowship for a senior trainee on an annual basis, recognised by the Association of Coloproctology
