Will you help bring more world-leading cancer research experts to The Christie?
With support from the charity and our partners, The Christie has been able to attract some of the very best cancer research experts from across the world to help take our research to the next level. But there's so much more we need to do.
Manchester has a growing international reputation for cancer research and this has been enhanced by high profile senior appointments such as the renowned clinician-scientist Professor Robert Bristow from Canada. As well as taking on a clinical role with The Christie, Professor Bristow is Director of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre.
As part of The Christie’s overall strategy to strengthen its research capacity a number of other key appointments have been supported by charity funding, in areas such as experimental cancer therapeutics, radiotherapy related research and proton beam therapy research. We need to continue to expand academic research across the Trust, to enable more patients to receive high quality, state-of-the-art treatment.
Strengthening our research capabilities will increase the choices available to Christie patients, with more opportunities to access clinical trials and personalised treatments. This will ultimately help to increase survival rates and reduce the side effects of cancer treatments.
