Academic Urological Surgery Programme

Helping deliver kinder, gentler cancer care through research and innovation.

Meet researcher Mr Ashwin Sachdeva and prostate cancer advocate Gilly Morgan. With support from Christie Charity supporters, Ashwin’s study is strengthening prostate cancer research and helping develop more targeted treatments with fewer long-term side effects.

Gilly Morgan was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in 2014 when he was 49 years old and was told the devastating news he had just three years to live. Fortunately, he responded well to treatment and 12 years later is fit and well, and is an advocate for prostate cancer research, treatment and care. He is passionate about sharing the importance of research and development in prostate cancer care, and why advocacy has been so important to him and his community.

Charity funding has supported specialist research posts and infrastructure, enabling The Christie to contribute to world leading clinical trials, including the STAMPEDE trial which is considered a milestone in clinical trial design due to its ability to accelerate the evaluation of multiple therapies simultaneously, and is helping establish Manchester as a leader in prostate cancer research.
