This month, we’re putting Dexter & Jones into our fundraiser Hall of Fame for releasing a nude charity calendar in support of The Christie Charity.
Adam and Katy Rickitt are the owners of Dexter & Jones, a bar and bottle shop in Knutsford. Adam and Katy first got involved in supporting The Christie Charity through community fundraising group The Christie Bears Knutsford. Dexter & Jones has hosted several of The Christie Bears Knutsford’s events, as well as their weekly Knit and Knatter group.
Inspired by a discussion at the bar, Adam and Katy decided to create a nude male calendar to raise money in support of male cancer awareness and research at The Christie. Every month of the calendar features one of Dexter & Jones’ regulars or a local Knutsford group posing with props which reflect their personalities. The calendar also includes advice for men on how to check for cancer at home and aims to increase awareness and dialogue.
Some of the men who took part in the charity calendar included Knutsford Rugby Club, local hairdressers, builders, firefighters, as well as Adam himself. Local photographer Steve Felmingham of Altabani Studios shot the photos over 2 months in later 2023 between October and November, and the calendars were printed by Chris Stuart of Design Print Create in Knutsford. As well as giving their time for free, both Steve and Chris also stripped naked themselves for the calendar’s back cover.
Although most of the men taking part in the nude calendar hadn’t ever done anything like it before, they were all keen to raise money in support of men’s health. Adam and Katy sold the calendar in later 2023 and it quickly sold out.
“We told the boys they could donate the money to whoever they wanted, and it was a resounding vote for The Christie. Pretty much every one of them had a friend or family member affected by cancer and many had personal and associated experiences with The Christie, which were all wonderful.
