This month, we’re putting Nick Wraith into our fundraiser Hall of Fame for organising a charity motorcycle trials day with Macclesfield Trials Club in support of The Christie Charity.
Nick is passionate about supporting The Christie and he wanted to raise money for The Christie Charity as it was a cause close to his heart. As one of the organisers of the Macclesfield Trials Club, an amateur motorcycle club, Nick and the club decided that one of their regular race days would be a great opportunity to fundraise for The Christie Charity.
The fundraising for the day came from a few different sources – entry fees, event sponsors, voluntary donations, and raffle ticket sales. The event’s sponsors were made up of a series of North West suppliers, with each one sponsoring a section of the course and the event’s programme showcasing their businesses.
The charity motorcycle trials day was set for December 2023 at Rough Hey Quarry near Macclesfield. But unfortunately, Macclesfield Trials Club had to reschedule the event as it snowed heavily in the area. Access became too difficult, and the course would have been too dangerous – so safety had to come first.
Nick and the rest of Macclesfield Trials Club reorganised the charity motorcycle trials day for 7 January 2024 and this time, luck was in their favour. Nick said they couldn’t have asked for better January weather, with the sun beaming down on them. More than 120 motorcycle riders entered the event, and several more volunteered their own time to help co-ordinate the day itself.
“It was a hugely successful event, with fantastic support from competitors, sponsors and supporters. Trials riding isn’t the most well-known sport, but we’re a right friendly bunch who’ll do anything to help the community!
