Robyn Bowerman, medical secretary

Robyn Bowerman, medical secretary in the clinical oncology breast team is the winner of The Christie’s You Made a Difference Award for June 2024. The following comments were made about Robyn in the June nominations.

The judges picked Robyn out as a very deserving winner and said that the comments made about her showed how she represented The Christie values and behaviours.

“Robyn is a medical secretary, in the clinical oncology breast team. She is the secretary for multiple consultants, including Dr Anandadas, Dr Chapman, Dr Kelly and Dr Lander. She is the first point of contact for patients and consultants, always providing an excellent secretarial cover.

“Working with so many consultants can be challenging and involves Robyn having to juggle multiple deadlines, manage busy clinics and have a large volume of dictations to transcribe. Robyn handles the pressure with ease, great attention to detail and efficiency.

“Robyn joined the Trust in 2015 and was working in various roles within the administration team. She secured a support secretary role, leading her on to securing her current medical secretary position, which I know she was very proud of achieving.

“Robyn continuously goes above and beyond in her work. She is a very skilled and experienced secretary who makes working with 4 busy consultants look a breeze, when it most definitely is not. She is always offering a helping hand to her work colleagues and will happily share her knowledge and best practices whenever needed. Robyn is an extremely valued member of the team.

“Robyn has a passion for jiu-jitsu, attending classes herself as well as teaching in the evenings. She shares her home with her 2 dogs, who keep her busy and entertained. Robyn is also currently undertaking the Business Administration with Cancer Pathway specialty apprenticeship, with much of the work being completed in her own time.”

“I talked to her 3 times, twice before my first appointment at The Christie and once when I was having side effects. She went out of her way to listen to me, talk to me and reassure me. Thank you.”
