The Christie is the one of the largest and most technologically advanced centres in the world, providing high-energy proton beam therapy, MR-guided radiotherapy, brachytherapy and molecular radiotherapy.

We have been at the forefront of innovation in radiotherapy treatment for over 100 years. In 1932, the ‘Manchester Method’ of radium treatment, pioneered at The Christie was adopted around the world. In 2019, Manchester experts received a £16.5 million boost from Cancer Research UK to develop the next generation of radiotherapy treatments to be delivered at The Christie.

We are one of only two UK-based healthcare organisations licenced as corporate radiation protection advisers. This means we can advise radiotherapy providers on how to achieve international safety standards around ionising radiation.
