Guy Macfarlane is the winner of The Christie’s You Made a Difference Award for July 2025.
The following comments were made about Guy in the July nominations. Judges picked him out as a very deserving winner and said that the comments made about him showed how he represents The Christie values and behaviours.
“Guy is an anaesthetic and recovery theatre practitioner. He was placed at The Christie for his 3-year placement whilst completing his Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) degree through Edge Hill university, following which he qualified in December 2024. He then commenced a full-time position in theatres at The Christie, working in main theatres, brachytherapy theatre and the proton beam therapy unit.
“Guy is extremely highly thought of by the whole multidisciplinary team, and he is excellent with patients, with his calm and reassuring manner. He is there to support when a patient is being put to sleep, and a reassuring figure when they wake in recovery. He is also supportive to our paediatric patients and their families in the proton unit. As his manager, he is a pleasure to manage, as he is totally committed to excellent patient care with extremely high standards.
“Guy’s interests include running, and he completed the Manchester Marathon earlier this year. He enjoys spending time with his family.”
- Maree Rowen, theatre sister and manager
“I met some amazing people at The Christie, but the kindness and compassion Guy showed to be above and beyond anything I have experienced. He has had that much of an impact on myself I often find myself thinking about him and will always be so grateful for everything he did for me even though it was for only a brief time before I went for surgery.
