Jacquline Hyatt, domestic assistant

Jacquline Hyatt is the winner of The Christie’s You Made a Difference Award for January 2026.

The following comments were made about Jacquline in the January nominations. Judges picked her out as a very deserving winner and said that the comments made about her showed how she represents The Christie values and behaviours.

“Jacquline joined the Trust in August 2022 as a domestic assistant, and she has been a valued member of the team ever since. In her role, she plays a vital part in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for both patients and staff. Her work directly supports patient recovery by ensuring clinical areas meet the highest hygiene standards, and she helps create a workspace where staff can carry out their duties safely and confidently. Jacquline takes great pride in her role, and her commitment to high standards is evident in everything she does.

“As Jacquline’s manager, I believe she thoroughly deserves this award. She brings genuine positivity to the team every single day, and this shines through in the way she interacts with everyone around her. Jacqueline consistently goes above and beyond, particularly in her conversations with patients. She takes the time to make them feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for — qualities that make a real difference to someone’s experience during a difficult time.

“Her dedication to maintaining exceptional cleaning standards is remarkable. The quality of her work is consistently noticeable, and colleagues frequently comment on her attention to detail. Jacqueline sets an example of professionalism, kindness, and pride in her work, and the Trust is truly better for having her.

“Outside of work, Jacquline is full of warmth, energy, and personality. She loves Jamaican music, which perfectly matches her vibrant and joyful spirit. Family is incredibly important to her. Even though some of her loved ones live far away in Jamaica, she cares for them with the same closeness and dedication as if they were right beside her. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing and spending quality moments with friends and family, bringing the same positivity and compassion to her personal life that she shares with us at work.”

"I first met Jacquline when I was going through chemo and losing my hair. I was in The Christie, feeling extremely upset and low – and she noticed and took the time to reassure me, telling me I was beautiful. After her shift, Jacquline came back to see me and showed me how to tie a headscarf using a cardigan or a scarf several different ways. She said she would come back the next day to show me with a proper scarf – which she did.

Jacquline did not have to do any of this, but her compassion, kindness and genuine care made a huge difference to me at an incredibly vulnerable time. She is a true credit to the hospital. Since then, I have gone on to show other ladies what Jacquline taught me – passing on the kindness that she showed me.
