Sean McGagh is the winner of The Christie’s You Made a Difference Award for September 2025.
The following comments were made about Sean in the September nominations. Judges picked him out as a very deserving winner and said that the comments made about him showed how he represents The Christie values and behaviours.
“Sean joined the portering team in July 2023, having previously worked for HCA. Almost immediately he slotted into the team and became a fundamental part of the group. Sean’s portering skills are made all the better because of his conscientiousness and his genuine concern for the wellbeing of everyone around him, both patients and colleagues. There is no task we can ask of him that would not be greeted with a ‘no problem.’ His willingness, flexibility, and positive demeanour mean that he is one of the most likeable people in the Trust.

“Sean is always kind and polite, happy to help anyone in need and never fails to put a smile on people's faces. Sean's consistent positivity is infectious, and it is delightful to see how his exceptional service impacts patients and staff. Sean's calming demeanour always puts patients at ease. For example, we had a very anxious patient who wasn't sure on how to get from our ward to Oak Road to meet their family, and Sean was on the ward delivering an item from the lab. He overheard the patient speaking with staff who were trying to explain how to get to Oak Road and he reassured the patient that he would escort them there safely. The patient left with a smile on her face and was much calmer. He always goes above and beyond. After every portering task, we have seen that Sean maintains his hand hygiene to the highest standard.
