Annual report and highlights of the year - 2020/21

Find out what we’ve done this year, see what a few of our amazing patients say about us - and see how The Christie has kept cancer care moving in a year like no other.

While the COVID-19 pandemic meant that things were different this year, the efforts of our amazing staff meant cancer care safely continued where possible. We became a protected site to keep our centre COVID-free as far as possible. And we made our operating theatres available so that the most urgent patients from other hospitals continued to receive treatment safely.

As well as coping with COVID-19, 2020/21 saw the first ever patient in the world to be entirely treated for cervical cancer using radiotherapy with the MR-guided linear accelerator (MR-linac) at The Christie.

Work has also been continuing on the building of our new Christie at Macclesfield centre, and the new world-beating new research facility on our site.
