Fiona was appointed as Director of Research and Innovation in May 2021. She is Professor of Thoracic Oncology at The University of Manchester and Consultant in Medical Oncology at The Christie. She undertook scientific research and her clinical training in St Andrews, Manchester and Toronto, Canada.
Her research is focused on optimising care and treatment for patients with lung cancer. In 2020, Fiona was the first UK clinician to receive the Heine-H. Hansen award. This award, established by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), acknowledges a lung cancer investigator who has made a significant contribution to lung cancer research and education on an international basis.
Fiona has held numerous leadership, committee and expert advisory roles, including for the Manchester National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre, Manchester Cancer Research Centre, Northwest Genomics Laboratory Hub, Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, UK National Cancer Research Institute, European Thoracic Oncology Platform, Cancer Research UK and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.
