Betty Kershaw, Christie member
After having worked with The Christie, Betty still wanted to make a difference after she retired. Here, she talks about how becoming a member of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust let her have an input into the Trust’s work.
“When I retired, I spent several years working part-time and looked for something near home where I could use my experience as a nurse teacher. This lead to an invitation to join the Education Committee and from there I became involved in the focus groups. My professional life had involved work at The Christie, the Royal Marsden and the Manchester universities, along with involvement in NHS student contract delivery for several professions.
“I find being a member of The Christie very satisfying especially with the support provided and the opportunities offered to learn about and contribute to the work of the Trust – I would emphasise this when encouraging friends to become involved. There is such a variety of areas where one can contribute and feel a valued member of the community.”
