What is endocrinology?

Junior doctors at The Christie will strike from 7am on Thursday 27 June until 7am on Tuesday 2 July 2024.

We are proactively contacting patients with appointments that may be affected. If you have an appointment on any of these dates, please continue to come to The Christie and our other centres as planned, unless we contact you to tell you otherwise. Pituitary gland issues

The pituitary gland is the master gland of the body. It secretes many hormones and is treated as part of endocrinology.

Thyroid gland issues

The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland inside the neck. Medical issues are treated as part of endocrinology.

Genetic (hereditary) and congenital endocrine disorders

Some endocrine conditions can be more common based on genes or chromosomes, including Turner's syndrome.

Osteoporosis and fracture risk

Osteoporosis is where the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of bone tissue.

Adrenal disease

The adrenal glands are two very small but vital endocrine glands. Issues with the adrenal glands are treated as part of endocrinology.
