Hormone therapy

Hormones are natural substances made by glands in our bodies. They are carried around the body by the bloodstream and act as messengers to tell parts of the body to start or stop doing something.

Hormone therapy is a way to use hormones to help fight cancer. It uses medicine to block or lower the amount of hormones in the body. This can then stop or slow down the growth of cancer.

It is only suitable for certain cancers, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer and womb (uterus) cancer. Your doctor will discuss with you if hormone therapy is suitable to treat your type of cancer.
