Our radiotherapy department is the sole NHS radiotherapy provider for Greater Manchester, although we also treat patients from Cheshire, Lancashire and beyond. A vital key to long-term survival for cancer patients is the immediate access to radiotherapy, particularly treatment with our fifteen linear accelerators.
Our radiotherapy department has a long tradition of research, innovation and world firsts which means our patients have access to the latest equipment and treatments as well as access to the latest clinical trials.
We have 3 additional cancer centres - including our centres in Oldham, Salford and Macclesfield - to deliver radiotherapy at other sites in Greater Manchester, bringing the treatment closer to patients' homes. Our centres have 2 state-of-the-art linear accelerators and a CT simulator.
The Salford centre offers a specialist stereotactic radiosurgery service which is currently used to treat small malignant and benign brain lesions. This provides a highly specialist state-of-the-art service within the Greater Manchester area that previously patients had to travel afar to receive.
On our site in Withington, we operate 9 linear accelerators, a superficial radiotherapy unit, 2 CT simulators and an MR linear accelerator. Everyone in our multidisciplinary team has helped develop and maintain our ISO accredited service since 1992.
