Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows charities to claim the tax back that you have already paid on your donations through income tax or capital gains Tax. At the moment, The Christie can claim an extra 25p from the government for every £1 you have donated.
This means a donation of £20 becomes £25 at no extra cost to you. By ticking for Gift Aid today, we can also claim Gift Aid on every donation you have made to The Christie over the last 4 years, and any donations you make from now on.
If you pay tax, we can Gift Aid your donations. Some people think they have to be in a full-time job to Gift Aid. This isn’t true. You can be on a pension or self-employed. As long as you have paid enough tax during the year to cover the amount we reclaim on your donations, you can Gift Aid.
For example, if you donate £100 to The Christie in a year, you just need to have paid £25 in tax in the same year. You may have paid this tax through your work, through capital gains, it could even have been deducted from your savings, investments or rental income.
Not at all. Signing up to Gift Aid will not affect your personal finances in any way.
We can still only reclaim the basic rate of tax (25p for every £1 you donate). However, to claim the difference you can request HMRC amend your tax code, or you can do so via your yearly tax return and donate it back to us this way. You’ll find a space for this on your yearly Self Assessment form from HMRC.
