The Christie Charity Spotlight events are an opportunity to hear from leading clinicians about their own area of work at The Christie and to learn about the impact that The Christie Charity has on treatment options and services available to patients.

They are free to attend and open to anyone who would like to hear more about our work.

Our next Spotlight event is on Thursday 20 March 2025, from 10.30am to 12 noon, at the Oglesby Cancer Research Building. Registration for this event has now closed, but please email the Spotlight team on the-christie.spotlight@nhs.net if you have any queries.

What to expect at our March 2025 Spotlight event

You will hear from Dr Sara Valpione, a consultant medical oncologist, who is working on a new trailblazing research project to improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal cancers such as stomach, pancreatic and liver. She will explain how information from cancer biomarkers (genes, proteins etc. that can be tested to reveal important details about a person’s cancer) can be used to develop more targeted treatments.

Dr Emma Searle, a consultant haematologist with a specialist interest in groundbreaking early phase clinical trials, will be talking about the development of a drug to help manage myeloma (a type of blood cancer) that is already showing promising results.

We will also be joined by patient speaker John McGartland who will share his experience and how he has benefitted from research, clinical trials and treatment at The Christie.

Light refreshments will be provided at the event.
