Beth first came to The Christie in summer 2024 after she was diagnosed with a rare thyroid cancer. Her doctors removed the cancer in June 2024 and after her surgery, Beth found out she’d been incredibly lucky by getting the cancer diagnosed early. It was a high-grade cancer, meaning it would be more likely to spread quickly but thankfully, it was still small and contained.
In August 2024, Beth had the rest of her thyroid removed. In total, doctors diagnosed her with 3 cancers in her thyroid – the high-grade tumour and 2 papillary thyroid cancers. Beth then had a PET-CT and was relieved to find out that the cancer hadn’t spread anywhere else.
Beth then had radioiodine treatment at The Christie in October 2024 to remove any remaining thyroid cells. She’ll now need regular check-up scans at the hospital to make sure her cancer doesn’t come back.
As Beth was only 30 and in good health when was she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, the diagnosis was a huge shock for her and her family and friends. She’s now dedicated to spreading awareness about thyroid cancer, as she’s since found that not many people she’s spoken to know about it.
Beth decided she wanted to give something back after her treatment and help as many other people like her as possible by raising money for The Christie Charity. She’s taking on the Wilmslow Festive 10k on Sunday 24 November 2024. The scenic and predominantly flat course starts in Wilmslow town centre, heading out into the scenic Cheshire countryside and finishing on Mobberley Road/Sandy Lane.
The Wilmslow Festive 10k is sold out but if you’ve already got your race place and are looking to fundraise for The Christie Charity, request your sponsorship pack today.
So far, Beth has managed to raise just under an incredible £1,200 for The Christie Charity, well past her initial target of £500!
“By doing this run, I want to spread awareness of thyroid cancer, and of the importance of keeping fit, healthy and your mind healthy while going through cancer. I know not everyone is able to run but because I have always done it, I have still managed to be able to do it during my treatment and it's helped me so much and my mind!
