Natasha decided she wanted to fundraise for The Christie Charity after her dad was diagnosed with stage 3 mouth cancer in January 2024. After intensive surgery, Natasha’s dad was referred to The Christie for 6 weeks of radiotherapy.
At The Christie, Natasha says that every staff member she and her dad encountered was professional, warm and very understanding, describing his care at the hospital as phenomenal – both medically and personally.
Natasha says that the staff they met weren’t only caring for her dad, but they also took the time to ensure that the family were listened to, cared for and heard. She adds that they went above and beyond and says that she could not be more grateful for their kindness.
To express her heartfelt thanks to The Christie for everything the hospital has done for her dad and her family, Natasha wanted to fundraise for The Christie Charity. She decided she would challenge herself to take on the Run Tatton 10K on Saturday 9 November 2024. The Run Tatton events are a series of 5K and 10K runs through beautiful Tatton Park in Knutsford, including a half marathon event in November. The Christie Charity is the partner charity for the Run Tatton series, with just 3 of the events left for 2024.
Natasha says that although running a 10K might not be a big challenge for some people, it was a huge task for her. She’d never been able to run even a kilometre without stopping before, so she used the Runna app to build up her stamina in small bursts. Gradually, Natasha says she went from hating running to really enjoying it as it gave her time to herself.
Running a 10K in Tatton Park was also important to Natasha. She says that her family has visited Tatton Park for many years, including taking her own children to visit. Natasha says she was thrilled when she realised she could support The Christie Charity in a place so close to her heart.
Natasha set herself a fundraising target of £250. She managed to completely smash her target, raising an incredible £1,170 for The Christie Charity.
“The process has been life-changing, however, throughout this whole experience, Dad has remained strong and determined to recover despite the many obstacles that he had to face. He is the bravest man I know, and I am infinitely proud of what he has overcome and achieved.
“The Christie was always going to be my chosen charity as I can't thank them enough for the support they have given my dad and myself and family. We have always felt heard at The Christie, they go above and beyond to help their patients. Through our dad’s cancer journey, I always wanted to give back so this seemed like the perfect way to do so.
