Dave Kearney, Christie patient
Dave discovered he had prostate cancer which had already spread to his liver in February 2016. After standard treatment options weren’t working, the cancer spread to the bone in his back and lymph nodes in his stomach.
With no other options currently available, Dave started on a clinical trial. This involved regular visits to the NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility at The Christie.
Now, 2 years on, Dave is on his 4th clinical trial, and has been treated by The Christie for 6 years in total. He and his wife Amanda recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary and welcomed their first grandchild. Dave's still supporting the Touching Lives campaign as he says all of his recent life milestones have been made possible by his treatment at The Christie.
“The clinical trials are time-consuming and you have to be fully committed to them, but we keep going. It's my 60th birthday next year so that’s the next milestone we are aiming for and looking forward to.
“The professionalism and empathic nature of all The Christie staff goes without saying, but it's the family atmosphere and the knowledge that they are always there to support us, no matter what time day or night, that really helps and makes The Christie so special.”
