This month, we’re putting Brookside Miniature Railway into our fundraiser Hall of Fame.
Brookside Miniature Railway is a mini train tourist attraction around the Brookside Garden Centre in Poynton, Cheshire. The miniature railway route trails over half a mile around the scenic Cheshire countryside and has been a popular destination for families for 40 years.
The miniature railway decided to host a Charity Fun Day in support of the Teenage and Young Adult Unit at The Christie. It was the first year they chose to raise money for The Christie Charity with their fun day as they wanted to support a local charity that made a real difference to a lot of people in the community.
Both directors of the railway, Chris Mackenzie MBE and Lee Oxley, organised a fantastic event for all the family. As well as donating all ticket sales from their Miniature Railway, they also had a raffle, funfair rides, a fairground organ and a traction engine.
The Christie Charity mascot Christie bear also made an appearance at the Charity Fun Day. Director of Brookside Miniature Railway said it was a great day and they loved raising money for such a worthy cause.
“The volunteers and staff love running the railway as there’s such a strong community feeling. This was especially so on the Charity Day. It was great to see everyone helping in any way they could – running a raffle, donating prizes, the vintage fair giving rides; the list is endless!
“It reassures your faith in human nature to see everyone helping such an important charity. Of course, the day was also very enjoyable.
