This month, we’re putting the Sandbach Young Farmers into our fundraiser Hall of Fame for holding a charity tug of war evening in support of The Christie Charity.
The farming community in Cheshire have been a strong source of support for The Christie Charity over the past few years and have connections with local community fundraising groups. However, this was the first time that the Sandbach Young Farmers group specifically had supported The Christie Charity.
Sandbach Young Farmers were inspired to raise money for The Christie Charity as one of the members’ fathers is a patient of The Christie. They also knew of family members of patients in the nearby Milk Maid Marchers and the Nantwich farming groups.
In September 2023, the Sandbach Young Farmers held their charity tug of war evening by kind permission of the Sutton family in Astbury. Over 10 teams entered the tug of war challenge, with teams entering from around the county of Cheshire, outside the county and from supporting local companies.
To raise money for The Christie Charity, the teams all donated to take part in the tug of war challenge. As well as this, there was also a raffle, an ice cream station, a barbeque, and family-friendly games to raise further funds. And to top the event off, Sandbach Young Farmers also booked a band so everyone could let their hair down after a very busy evening!
After a hard-fought competition, the Congleton Young Farmers group won the tug of war challenge. The evening raised just over an incredible £5,400 for The Christie Charity.
