This month, we’re putting the Siemens running team into our fundraiser Hall of Fame for taking part in the Great Manchester Run 2024.

The team at Siemens in Manchester voted for The Christie Charity as their charity of the year in 2024. So far, they’ve supported us by signing up for The Christie Challenge, a 10 peak 24-hour challenge and holding a football tournament.

The team were inspired to raise money for The Christie Charity as several colleagues had friends or family members treated at the hospital, as well as the work that many of them had personally experienced.

One personal connection in particular is that of Steve Aughton, the team captain for Siemens at the Great Manchester 2024. Steve’s friend Jonathan Easton is currently receiving treatment at The Christie.

Siemens Manchester also signed up for the Great Manchester Run in May 2024. With 48 runners taking part, it was their biggest team ever at a sporting event.

On 26 May 2024, the runners from Siemens took part in the 10k and half marathon events. Beginners, interns and veterans ran together raising just over £13,200, the largest total Siemens Manchester have ever raised at a sporting event!

“I’ve witnessed first-hand what the team do, and Jonathan could not be more grateful for the outstanding care and understanding of the whole treatment team – from the oncology nurse Rachel Esfahani, Victoria Little, his clinical nurse specialist to Dr Hasa and Professor Aziz as the lead oncologist and surgeon respectively.

The more we can do to support this great team, the better.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to the Siemens running team who took part in the Great Manchester Run 2024. Fundraising like this helps us keep supporting cancer patients and their loved ones, over and above what the NHS can fund.
