Thanks to advances in treatment, people with cancer are now living longer. This good news means demand for CT scan appointments in the radiology department at The Christie has risen on average by 9% every year.

We want to deliver real improvements which will mean the best possible experience for our patients in the next decade and beyond.

We’re looking to remodel and expand our existing radiology department. This would create a more streamlined patient experience – and mean by 2025 we can offer 5,000 more patient appointments every year.

Almost every patient treated at The Christie passes through our radiology department for a CT scan – you may even know someone who’s spent time here. Donating today will help people just like them.

A home for the 4D CT scanner

We recently ran an appeal to raise funds for a new 4D CT scanner. This state-of-the-art new machine will add a whole new layer of imaging by combining CT and video X-ray, providing more advanced images of a patient’s body.

Now, we’re looking to remodel the whole department. This will include a suite to accommodate the new scanner, so that it can make a real difference to our patients.

Our plans for the radiology department

Our fantastic radiology department is in constant demand. Although it’s still a world-class facility, we urgently need to redevelop it to improve appointment efficiency.

The increasing demand on the radiology department has also created logistical challenges. A more efficient layout and design of the department is essential if we’re to make the CT scanning process better for every patient.

Our plans for the redevelopment will keep patients’ needs firmly in mind. We want to increase floor space and introduce bigger, more modern changing rooms. This will preserve patients’ dignity and privacy more effectively.

The spacious, state-of-the-art facility will also help attract even more of the world’s best practitioners to The Christie. With more experts, we will have scope to increase our research by another 20%, giving more opportunity for breakthroughs.
