We need you to help fund a brand new research nurse so we can invite more people to take part in life changing clinical trials.
Just one research nurse could help so many cancer patients in Greater Manchester.
Making clinical trials available for all patients
Currently, not all hospitals across Greater Manchester have the infrastructure or resource to provide or discuss clinical trials with all patients. This means some breast cancer patients are missing out on clinical trials that could save or extend their lives.
“I know I’m certainly proud to head one of the strongest research teams in the UK and I’m ready and raring to get to work on new clinical trials for more patients than ever. I just need your help today.”
- Professor Andrew Wardley, medical director of NIHR Manchester research facility
Extending the areas where we provide clinical trials is good for science too. A diverse sample size in a clinical trial means better quality results – meaning better outcomes for patients in the future.
How research helped Jackie
Bringing research closer to our cancer patients can bring a real benefit for them. It’s helping people like Jackie.
Jackie was first diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2017. After a mastectomy and chemotherapy at her local hospital in Wigan, she received radiotherapy at The Christie in south Manchester. The long journey to Manchester and back was a huge strain on her health.
In August 2018, a clinical trial in Jackie’s local hospital made her treatment so much easier and opened up new possibilities.
“It was massively beneficial for me to know that I could participate in this new trial at my local hospital in Wigan.”
- Jackie, Christie clinical trial patient

Can you help breast cancer patients?
As part of our breast cancer research team, a new research nurse would mean we could bring life-changing clinical trials to even more people in Greater Manchester. Jackie’s story shows how the programme worked in Wigan – now we want to bring it to more towns like yours.
Your donation today will go straight towards funding a research nurse, so you can feel proud that you are directly reaching out to new breast cancer patients in Greater Manchester.
