Each and every person who works at The Christie performs a valuable role which directly links to patient care. Whether it is a nurse delivering chemotherapy treatments, a member of the administration team sending out an appointment letter, a surgeon performing a robotic procedure, the domestic teams ensuring our wards are spotlessly clean, or an IT engineer keeping our computer systems running, there is a huge variety of roles that come together to make The Christie special.
All our staff go to tremendous lengths to help each and every one of our patients and together: We are The Christie.
Marguerita Gallagher, senior information support officer, shares how she, her colleague Bernie and the whole cancer information centre team make a difference to patients.
Marguerita has worked at The Christie for 15 years and, as part of her role in the cancer information centre she and the team work with patients to organise weddings and civil partnerships for those coming to the end of their lives.
The cancer information centre team work with the couple from the very beginning and are involved in everything from sorting the legal side of things to getting a cake and decorating the hospital conservatory, day room or bedside for the occasion.
“Each person is different, and we try and tailor the celebration to them as much as we can. One woman wanted everything to be pink, so that’s what we did. We are committed to making sure each wedding goes ahead in a short timeframe.”
