Professional biography

Dr Khan is a Medical Oncologist whose career has been shaped by broad international clinical experience and a strong commitment to innovation in cancer care. Following graduation with a Doctor of Medicine degree with First Class Honours, he gained extensive experience in Saudi Arabia, working across Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care, developing a strong foundation in acute and complex medical care. He subsequently pursued specialist training in Medical Oncology in Ireland through the alternative training pathway, gaining experience across a wide spectrum of tumour sites and progressing to senior consultant-level practice. He holds MRCP (UK), MRCP SCE Medical Oncology, and ESMO qualifications.

A multilingual clinician fluent in English, Arabic, Urdu and Romanian, Dr Khan combines clinical excellence with academic interests in immunotherapy, precision oncology and quality improvement. Currently a consultant at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, his future vision centres on integrating artificial intelligence and digital innovation into personalised oncology and next-generation clinical trials.

Research Interest

Dr Mohammad Raza Khan’s research interests focus on clinical and translational oncology, with particular emphasis on immunotherapy, targeted therapies, precision medicine, and improving delivery of cancer care. He has published work in areas including immunotherapy in small-cell lung cancer, FGFR-targeted therapies in cholangiocarcinoma, virtual oncology services, and healthcare quality improvement. He has a growing interest in the role of artificial intelligence in Medical Oncology, particularly the use of AI and large language models to support personalised cancer care, treatment decision-making, and future clinical trial design.

Educational Interests

Dr Khan has a strong interest in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and has been actively involved in teaching medical students, trainees, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals throughout his career. His interests include oncology education, technology-enhanced learning, mentorship, and the integration of digital and AI-based tools into future medical education. He has organised educational programmes, journal clubs, and specialist registrar teaching initiatives, with a focus on creating practical and clinically relevant learning environments.
