The role of the radiotherapy education team
We are proud to support the development of future therapeutic radiographers by hosting learners from the University of Liverpool’s undergraduate and master’s programmes in radiotherapy. We also host degree apprenticeship radiographers from Sheffield Hallam University.
The radiotherapy education team also supports elective learners from other institutions both nationally and internationally.
Routes into radiotherapy careers
For further details about pathways into a career in radiotherapy, please refer to the respective course pages provided by each institution or see details on the NHS Health Careers website.
Open days
We regularly host open days across the fields of radiotherapy, proton beam therapy, and medical physics.
These events are designed to provide valuable insight into the daily responsibilities of a therapeutic radiographer or medical physicist at The Christie. They are open to learners considering a career in radiotherapy/medical physics and to those who have already graduated and wish to explore the profession further.
For additional information, including details of forthcoming open days, please contact the radiotherapy education team using the email below.
Elective opportunities
We are pleased to offer elective placements for learners in therapeutic radiography currently enrolled on a course at university. Placements are available for a maximum duration of 5 consecutive days and may be undertaken across any of our sites in Withington, Oldham, Salford and Macclesfield. Proton beam therapy is only available at our Withington site. Elective placements are for any learner who isn’t currently on permanent placement at The Christie.
Please note that all elective placements are observational in nature. Availability within specific specialties is subject to departmental capacity and will be considered in relation to current learner numbers at the time of your request.
Processing an elective request may take up to 12 weeks, so please consider this when applying for an elective request.
For additional information or to request an application form, please contact our radiotherapy education team via the email address below.
Professional visitors/observerships
Healthcare and management professionals who wish to spend time within the Trust for a defined purpose, such as undertaking research, conducting an audit, or observing clinical practice and techniques are welcome. You can find out more about observerships and the application process on our page about Clinical observerships at The Christie Institute for Cancer Education.
