“After having a stoma fitted and various drainage bags fitted during surgery, Charley managed to really help dispel some of the understandable stigma any patient would have after waking up from surgery with these additions. The way she treated me, and other patients was like you were already friends, you were in a safe place and what has happened to you is normal and nothing out of the ordinary.
“She is an exceptional healthcare assistant and has a very natural ability with all her patients to bring comfort and optimism for the future.”
- Tom Thornber, staff member and patient
“Charley is a band 3 healthcare assistant – she started on ward 10 in April 2022 as a band 2, and she was promoted to a band 3 to 6 months later. Charley is one of the most hardworking, pleasant, friendly, competent, and compassionate healthcare assistants I have ever come across in my 15 years of nursing. Charley is only 20 years old, but her maturity outweighs her age.
“As Charley’s manager, I feel she has been nominated due to the fact that on a daily basis, she goes above and beyond for her patients. She does all her work with a smile on her face, even when days are stressful you can never tell with Charley. Patients pull me to one side on a daily basis telling me how wonderful she is and what an asset she is to the ward.
“I am very proud that I was one of the people who hired Charley at the start of 2022 - it is one of the best decisions I have made so far being a new ward manager.”
Lauren Toman, senior sister and ward manager, ward 10
