Daniel Faulkner, a clinical educator in chemotherapy services is the winner of The Christie’s You Made a Difference Award for September 2024. The following comments were made about Daniel in the September nominations.
Judges picked Daniel out as a very deserving winner and said that the comments made about him showed how he represents The Christie values and behaviours.
“Dan has worked for the Trust for 3 years and became a clinical educator in July 2023.
“Dan’s role is to educate and train new members of staff in the safe delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) whilst also supporting existing members of staff with updates. He teaches on study days including UKONS, BLS and AIMS and has recently become one of our flu and COVID vaccinators. He has also recently implemented ultrasound-guided cannulation on the unit. This prevents patients from being deferred due to difficult venous access, resulting in less stress and a smoother journey for our patients. He is currently completing a PGCert in medical and clinical education.
“In his spare time, Dan likes to keep fit and has completed an Ironman triathlon and on occasion can be found swimming in Sale Water Park, although his screams from the cold water can be heard much further afield! Dan is a well-liked and respected member of staff and a valued member of the SACT clinical education team.”

“My dad has a needle phobia and starting chemotherapy treatment was obviously a challenge. Daniel was always there when staff struggled to find a vein. Daniel was always successful, very patient, understanding and put my dad's mind at ease every time.
