Emma Mitchell, clinical nurse specialist

Emma Mitchell, a clinical nurse specialist in anaesthetics, theatre and surgery, and clinical support and specialist surgery is the winner of The Christie’s You Made a Difference Award for January 2025. The following comments were made about Emma in the January nominations.

Judges picked Emma out as a very deserving winner and said that the comments made about her showed how she represents The Christie values and behaviours.

“Emma is a clinical nurse specialist for the surgical skin cancer service. She supports new patients in clinic and along their journey for surgical treatment for skin cancer. She also supports patients who receive bad news. She works autonomously and follows up melanoma patients in nurse led clinics. She joined the Trust in 2017, moving here from Stepping Hill in a pre-op role.

“Emma deserves the award so much, as she is so committed to her job. She is so supportive of her patients, patients feel confident in her care, and she will always go above and beyond to ensure they get the best support. She is also extremely supportive to her colleagues, and is a key member of the plastics team, always striving to make sure every team member is okay, and well-supported professionally and personally. She is a super nurse and an incredible friend to so many. Nothing it seems is ever too much – she is always there.

“Emma is recently married to her long-term partner, Simon. She has 2 sons, Ben and Sam, and 2 stepchildren, Emily and George. They are a great family unit – also, her 5th child, Daisy the dog!

“She likes to keep up her exercise with (ideally) twice-weekly runs after work. We do not like it, but Emma always says it is good for us! She is regularly out socialising at the weekends with her family and friends – music festivals, tours and walks. She is a fab host for parties at her home.”

“This lady was with me at my first appointment at The Christie in 2021. She has been amazing, very factual, and professional and also truly cared for my wellbeing. She has supported me mentally and has understood my worries and concerns. I am now 3 years down the road, and she is guiding me.

I cannot tell you how a conversation with this lady if I am worried or if I have a wobble, she understands and genuinely cares, I believe this lady should be recognised for the amazing work that she does.
