Martha Wilson, a clinical specialist nurse (CNS) working in the Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) department, is our January 2022 You Made a Difference Award winner. The following comments were made about Martha in the nominations. Judges picked her out as a very deserving winner and said that the comments made about her showed how she represents The Christie principles and behaviours.
“Martha joined the Trust in 2020, just as the pandemic hit. Martha is one of our teenage and young adult specialist nurses. Her role is to provide clinical and psychosocial support to young people aged between 16 and 25 years’ old, having treatment for cancer.
“Martha is an exceptional CNS – she is organised, diligent and passionate about meeting the needs of TYA patients. TYA patients value the support Martha provides by being supportive, knowledgeable, and providing support to both the TYA patients and their families.
“Martha is also an excellent team member – she is supportive, thoughtful and forward-thinking. Essentially Martha is an asset not just to the TYA team but to The Christie and she deserves this award for all her hard work and commitment.
“Martha likes good food, holidays, walking and is getting ready to move into her first house in the coming months.”

“Martha is so caring, friendly, and amazing at her job! Such an inspiration and we couldn't thank her enough.
“Martha looked after my husband from start to finish on his cancer journey and made it so much easier! Not only did she look after him, but she also looked after me. When my husband was in a bad way in ICU, she would ring/text me to make sure I was okay and explained things that I didn't understand about his care. She also came all the way to our house (4-hour round journey) for a home visit when he came out of ICU to check in on him, make sure we were okay and to talk about what the next steps were, which was just so lovely.
