“Sandra is a Trust porter who predominantly covers The Christie Private Care duties as part of our partnership agreement. This is theatres 8 and 9, The Christie Private Care 2nd and 3rd floors, and The Christie day unit. “Sandra can be found floating between departments whilst juggling her Teletracking device with her Trust mobile and being available at the drop of a hat. She only recently moved across to portering in May, having been a healthcare assistant since 2006. She is coming up to 17 years’ service with The Christie. “Sandra is always approachable and eager to help both patients and colleagues alike. She is known for ‘going the extra mile’ while carrying out her tasks as a porter and nothing is too much for her when catering for the needs of patients. Her experience as a healthcare assistant built up her abilities to add exceptional consideration and care even when undertaking a routine duty. “An avid DIY enthusiast, Sandra is never far away from planning her next decorating project but most of her time will soon be taken up with the birth of her first grandchild who is due in April and has become the centre of her attention.”

Howard Worgan, deputy operational services manager in portering

“I brought my dad into The Christie by car on the morning of 6 December (as an emergency). I asked at the front desk for some help getting dad out of the car. He was very poorly, and he suffered a rigor episode whilst trying to get him out. Sandra sprang into action and got dad into a wheelchair (with my brothers help) and she rushed him to the acute assessment unit. “She was a great help to me as I was upset to see dad so poorly. She then went to meet my brother to bring him back to the ward. Her genuine concern for all of us was so sincere and I can’t express my thanks enough. She is an asset to The Christie team – and she also gives great hugs, just what was needed!”
