Junior doctors at The Christie will strike from 7am on Thursday 27 June until 7am on Tuesday 2 July 2024.

We are proactively contacting patients with appointments that may be affected. If you have an appointment on any of these dates, please continue to come to The Christie and our other centres as planned, unless we contact you to tell you otherwise. Please do not call to check if your appointment is still going ahead.

Surgical education

The School of Oncology’s surgical education portfolio provides a comprehensive programme of academic, revision and preparation courses aimed at students, trainees, and consultants.

These popular courses are Consultant led and are suitable for those beginning their surgical career to Consultants wishing to gain specialist skills and qualifications.

The courses include:

  • Future surgeons key skills, aimed at medical students and foundation doctors
  • Basic surgical skills, aimed at junior trainees pursuing a career in surgery
  • The Edinburgh MRCS preparation course aims to improve candidates performance on the MRCS Part B examination
  • Intensive surgical anatomy revision for MRCS Part B OSCE
    Minimal access surgery
  • Microsurgery
  • FRCS exit examination revision course in general surgery
  • Laparoscopic train the trainer and master classes

The surgical programme at The Christie School of Oncology is led by Mr Chelliah Selvasekar, and is supported by a faculty of highly experienced surgeons.
