Strike action from Thursday 27 June to Tuesday 2 July 2024

Junior doctors at The Christie will strike from 7am on Thursday 27 June until 7am on Tuesday 2 July 2024.

We are proactively contacting patients with appointments that may be affected. If you have an appointment on any of these dates, please continue to come to The Christie and our other centres as planned, unless we contact you to tell you otherwise. Please do not call to check if your appointment is still going ahead.

Advanced nursing practice

Advanced nursing practice is well established at The Christie. Our nurse clinicians are attached to disease groups, or generic oncology teams, which support acute oncology and junior medical staff.

The Trust is committed to supporting the ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) for Nurse Clinicians and Advanced Practitioners. Opportunities include:-

  • CPD Handbook
  • Advanced clinical practice master classes, providing an opportunity for Nurse Clinicians and Advanced Practitioners, to update and enhance their knowledge and skills. The master classes are themed around a particular body system, and consist of a series of lectures and the opportunity to practice advanced clinical skills.

Additional support available includes:

  • Peer/supervisor support from a consultant
  • 360 degree feedback
  • Forum for non-medical prescribers
  • Grand rounds
  • Teaching and research opportunities
