Radiotherapy treatments

Radiotherapy uses high energy rays to kill cancer cells. Different radiotherapy techniques are useful for different types of tumours. At The Christie, we provide a range of different types of radiotherapy.

The most common type of radiotherapy is known as external beam therapy. However, some patients may require different types of radiotherapy such as superficial radiotherapy, electron radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic ablative radiotherapy, radioisotope treatment or brachytherapy.

We are also the first NHS centre in the UK to offer high-energy proton beam therapy.
