A health play specialist will work with paediatric patients and assess their physical, psychological and behavioural needs to enable them to engage well with their treatment.
The health play specialists will facilitate therapeutic and specialised play preparation sessions for children to help them understand their radiotherapy/proton treatment. Play preparation helps children to build confidence and aids their ability to have treatment awake, without the use of general anaesthetic (for children over the age of 4).
In addition, the health play specialist is a support for parents and carers and supports families from referral right through to the end of radiotherapy/proton treatment, ensuring their experience is positive and well supported.
