The Christie at Home service allows patients to receive chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments in their own homes. It was set up in 2016 and has expanded since the start, now delivering over 7,000 treatments a year.
Christie systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) nursing staff visit patients at home and deliver the treatments. The Christie at Home service is a pharmacy and nurse-led service. For some patients, this means they do not have to travel to the main Christie site to receive short treatments.
The Christie at Home currently offers several different SACT treatments that can be safely delivered in the home care environment across a range of disease groups.
The major benefit for patients of The Christie at Home service is that they do not have to travel into hospital to receive their chemotherapy or immunotherapy treatments. This gives them more free time and helps to enhance their quality of life.
For patients receiving treatment under The Christie at Home service, they will have medication delivered to their home before their chemotherapy or immunotherapy treatment. They will then get a phone call to tell them what time the nurse is coming to administer their treatment.
If you are a Christie patient and your chemotherapy or immunotherapy treatment can be safely administered at home, your clinical team will talk to you about The Christie at Home service.
You can contact The Christie at Home team on 0161 918 7671. The office is open 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
