Professional biography

Dr John Barnes studied medicine as a mature student at St Mary's Medical School, University of London and qualified in 1997. He completed anaesthesia and critical care training in North-West London and took up his first consultant post at Trafford General Hospital (birthplace of the NHS) in August 2007.

In 2009 Dr Barnes became clinical lead for critical care at Trafford and opened the first critical care unit in 2010, with antimicrobial copper fitted to all high touch areas and in the clean preparation room.
