Responsibilities
Dr Mbanu provides clinical oncology services to colorectal patients referred primarily from Tameside Hospital. He participates in weekly colorectal multi-disciplinary meetings with colleagues managing colorectal cancer at Tameside Hospital. He also provides clinical oncology services to anal cancer patients at Tameside, Wigan and Salford. He is a core anal cancer multi-disciplinary team member at The Christie.
Dr Mbanu is the clinical lead for the acute oncology service at Salford Royal hospital. This service is delivered with the support of acute oncology nurses and other consultant oncologists. His clinical commitments at Salford Royal include leading the multi-disciplinary team of the cancer of unknown primary (CUP).
Professional biography
Dr Mbanu graduated with honours from the University of Liverpool in Medicine and Surgery in 2006. He did his early postgraduate medical training in Liverpool before coming to The Christie for his clinical oncology training, which he completed in 2018. Post his clinical oncology training; he has gained experience in the oncological management of colorectal and anal cancer as a consultant at The Christie and the North Wales Cancer Centre.
Dr Mbanu has a research interest in organ preservation in rectal cancer and has undertaken a research degree leading to the award of a research MD from the University of Manchester in 2022. His research interest is looking at ways to predict clinical complete response in rectal cancer before patients receive their treatments to try and increase the number of patients that develop complete response post-chemo-radiotherapy.
