Professional biography
Dr. Ciara O’Brien is a graduate of University College London Medical School. She was awarded an AACR Scholar in Training Award in 2009 and a PhD from University of Manchester in 2011 for research characterizing stem cell pathways of drug resistance in breast cancer. Dr. O’Brien completed specialist training in Medical Oncology at the Christie Hospital, Manchester, UK. Thereafter she undertook a fellowship in Experimental Cancer Medicine at the Christie Hospital/University of Manchester, with a focus on novel molecular target identification and precision oncology clinical trials in breast cancer.
In 2017 Dr. O’Brien was appointed an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and in 2018 she was appointed Consultant in Medical Oncology at The Christie. She has a portfolio of academic and commercial clinical trials in breast cancer which she runs alongside collaborative translational research projects focusing on molecular drivers and biomarkers of the metastatic niche in breast cancer.
