Experimental Cancer Medicine Team (ECMT) nurse specialist service

The ECMT clinical nurse specialist:

  • is an experienced cancer nurse who specialises in offering supportive care to patients on early phase trials,
  • has experience within research and understanding of early-phase clinical trials,
  • works closely with the team of doctors, research nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in your care, and
  • provides non-trial specific support, information and advice.

What does the ECMT specialist nurse do?

The ECMT specialist nurse offers:

  • information and advice,
  • time to talk about your problems, issues or worries,
  • help with physical or psychological problems relating to illness or treatment side effects,
  • information and support for friends and relatives,
  • a point of contact when problems arise,
  • a further contact and link to your research team,
  • a link to other health professionals involved in your care at home and in hospital, and
  • referrals to other health professionals and support services.

How can I contact the nurse specialist?

The nurse specialist is available:

  • during outpatient clinics when attending for review or treatment, or
  • via telephone or email.

The ECMT clinical nurse specialist service is available Monday to Friday, 8am to 2pm. Please leave a message and you will be contacted as soon as possible, although this may not be the same day. You can also contact your trial research nurse who will provide contact details when you start your trial.
