Peritoneal tumour service patient days

Since 2016, we have held an annual peritoneal tumour service (PTS) patient day at The Christie. The emphasis is to provide support, education and enable networking between patients, their families and friends, and the team.

Patients give presentations about their treatment, with family members providing a different insight. These are always emotional and very inspiring to everyone who attends.

Consultants also give presentations on updates on research and service development. Physiotherapists, dieticians, occupational therapists, and clinical psychologists also offer advice and support – this has a very positive impact on patients’ health and wellbeing.

We also feature stalls including Macmillan, stoma nurses, dieticians, and several relevant charities. The complementary therapy team are also on hand to offer treatments to patients.

The feedback from this day is continuously overwhelmingly positive and we take on board any suggestions to use for the next events

“Rebecca I thank you dearly for the invitation to come here today (patient day). It has been very informative and has resonated with me so much. I would not hesitate to attend the patient day again! Thank you.”

“Humbling – informative – heart-warming! Exceeded all my expectations – made me realise how lucky I have been to have enjoyed the thoroughly professional treatment and after care support offered by Christie’s incredible team.” (2019)

“Extremely informative day. Loved the patient stories and Prof O'Dwyer's insight into the research side of things certainly must have given many hope.” (2021)

“So easy to access online. Would be really good to do online again for those patients, like me, that live a distance away. I found the talk by the man from Maggie's most helpful as a lot of what he said resonated with me and reassured me.” (2021)

“Great to hear other people's journey's as they differ so much yet also have so much in common. Helps me to feel less isolated.” (2021)

“Great having it online as I live 350 miles from The Christie.” (2021)

“Once again a very interesting and moving day. Stories of hope and courage that inspire. The day makes me feel like I’ve got a support network that is so comforting. The dedication of The Christie team is humbling. Thank you to Rebecca for creating a platform that we are able to express ourselves, understanding our disease and treatments available.”
